Understanding UAE Corporate Tax: What Every Business Needs to Know

The introduction of UAE Corporate Tax in 2023 marked a significant shift in the country's economic landscape. As we move through 2026, businesses must stay current with evolving regulations, filing requirements and compliance obligations to avoid penalties and optimize their tax position.

Who Is Subject to UAE Corporate Tax?

All UAE businesses and commercial activities are subject to Corporate Tax unless specifically exempt. This includes companies incorporated in the UAE mainland, free zone entities that do not meet qualifying income criteria, and foreign entities with a permanent establishment in the UAE. Natural persons conducting business activities exceeding AED 1 million in annual turnover are also within scope.

Tax Rates and Thresholds for 2026

The UAE Corporate Tax regime applies a 0% rate on taxable income up to AED 375,000, a 9% rate on income exceeding this threshold, and a separate rate of 15% for large multinational enterprises meeting specific Pillar 2 criteria. Small businesses with revenues below AED 3 million may continue benefiting from Small Business Relief through December 2026.

Free Zone Considerations

Qualifying Free Zone Persons can benefit from a 0% rate on qualifying income, provided they meet substance requirements, maintain audited financial statements and comply with transfer pricing documentation rules. Income from non-qualifying activities and mainland-sourced income remains taxable at standard rates.

Filing Deadlines and Penalties

Businesses must register for Corporate Tax before their first filing deadline, which is within nine months of their financial year-end. Late registration and filing attract significant penalties, and non-compliance can lead to audit triggers. Proactive preparation is essential for a smooth filing experience.
